Metadata cleanup covers supported document info fields only. It does not claim to remove every hidden object, attachment, script, or forensic trace.
How to use PDF Info
PDF Info reads the standard document fields supported by this application and reports page count, each page's dimensions and rotation, and a scan-layer hint. It can extract digital text into a separate text download and edit common metadata fields such as title, author, subject, keywords, creator, and producer in a new PDF copy.
Steps
- 1Choose a PDF no larger than 10 MB or 100 pages; inspection is limited to protect browser memory.
- 2Review the displayed page count, dimensions, rotation, metadata, and scan-layer summary.
- 3To read selectable text, run text extraction and review the preview before downloading its text file.
- 4To change metadata, edit only the supported fields, save a new PDF, then reopen it and verify the values.
Privacy: Inspection, text extraction, and metadata updates run in the browser. PDF bytes are not sent to a PDF4.IN processing endpoint. The original is not overwritten; downloaded output follows your browser settings.
Supported scope: This tool reads a defined set of document-info fields and does not inspect every PDF dictionary or embedded object. Text extraction reads an existing digital text layer; scanned page images need OCR and may have no selectable text. A scan hint is heuristic, and the tool is not a PDF/A, accessibility, malware, or security validator.
PDF Info FAQs
- What PDF metadata can I inspect or edit?
- The supported fields are title, author, subject, keywords, creator, and producer. Changing them creates a new copy; it does not clean every metadata location or hidden object.
- Does PDF Info read scanned pages?
- It can report pages that appear image-only, but it does not recognize text in an image. Scanned content requires OCR, and this tool does not provide OCR.
- Can I extract text from any PDF?
- Only text stored as digital PDF text can be extracted. A scan, outlined letters, unusual encodings, or damaged content may yield no text or incomplete results.
- Why are page dimensions and rotations shown?
- Dimensions help identify page size and mixed-size documents; rotation reports the page's orientation value. These details are descriptive and do not certify correct rendering.
- Does this verify PDF safety or standards compliance?
- No. It reports selected properties only. It does not perform a complete conformance, accessibility, signature, embedded-file, script, or security audit.
